Rep. Rosendale Introduces The Science-Based Grizzly Bear Management Act

The Science-Based Grizzly Bear Management Act seeks to delist the grizzly bear from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) and Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE).

“The grizzly bear has recovered in the NCDE and GYE, and we should celebrate this conservation success story. It’s time for the federal government to return management of the grizzly bear in these ecosystems to the states, and Rep. Rosendale’s legislation will do just that. The State of Montana and our impacted communities are prepared to manage the recovered grizzly.” – Montana Governor Greg Gianforte.

Continued ESA listing of grizzly bears are yet another example of burdensome federal regulations impeding proven state management and conservation strategies. Recognizing ESA success stories like the Grizzly Bear and removing it from the endangered species lists will open up more funding and resources for other endangered species. As we fight for the role of hunters in conservation across the country, Safari Club International (SCI) fully supports the Science-Based Grizzly Bear Management Act. SCI will always be First for Hunters.

SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin stated, “Time and again we have seen wildlife management dictated by emotions rather than scientific data to the detriment of wildlife and habitat. The Science-Based Grizzly Bear Management Act will remove outdated federal protections and enable true conservation strategies through the state agencies. SCI thanks Rep. Rosendale for introducing this critical legislation and extends our full support.”
