Federal: Government Funding Update

A government shutdown was temporarily avoided this weekend, as a 45-day continuing resolution passed through Congress to maintain FY2023 government funding levels until November 17th. A shutdown, among other things, would furlough most of the 4 million federal government employees and shutter federal services such as National Parks.

This development is also likely to create another leadership dispute in the House, as factions of the Republican conference disagreed on components of the temporary continuing resolution. Rep. Matt Gaetz has stated his intent to start procedures to attempt to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his office.
