Ten Special Big Game Tags in Arizona will be raffled on July 22, 2020. The winners will be able to hunt for one of 10 big game species almost anywhere in the state of Arizona throughout the entire 2020-2021 hunting season. Special tags also allow hunting with any legal weapon. Tags will be raffled for bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorn, bison, turkey, bear, javelina and mountain lion. Turkey hunters should note that the turkey tag would allow them to hunt the only huntable Gould turkey population in the United Sates.
The Arizona Game and Fish Commission provides these special tags every year for the Arizona Big Game Super Raffle. The raffle raises funds for wildlife and wildlife management, with the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) and the Arizona Habitat Partnership Committee (AHPC) allotting the money to conservation projects for each particular species. You can read more about the program here.
In the 14-year history of the raffle, more than $7 million has been raised for wildlife and wildlife management in Arizona. Last year 35,355 tickets were sold, raising $669,065 for Arizona wildlife conservation.
Raffle tickets are available for $5 to $25 each, depending on the species, and can be ordered online at arizonabiggamesuperraffle.com/buy-tickets/. The raffle is open to residents and nonresidents, including hunters outside the US who are 21 years of age or older. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. But hurry! The deadline is 10 pm Sunday, July 12. The names of the winners will be drawn at 6 pm. (MST) on Wednesday, July 22, at Arizona Game and Fish Department headquarters in Phoenix. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the drawing will not be open to public attendance this year, however, the event will be webcast. For more information, visit arizonabiggamesuperraffle.com.
