Two for One, Three Quarters Done

Turkey hunting isn’t just something I do, it’s something I love. There’s nothing like the quiet of the woods before sunrise, the sound of a gobble breaking the stillness, and that rush you get when everything starts coming together. Every hunt feels different, but the excitement is always the same.

I am three-quarters of the way to achieving the Turkey Grand Slam. I’ve already tagged my Eastern, Rio Grand, and Merriam varieties. Each one has its own story, its own memory, and its own lesson. Every bird has pushed me closer to a goal I’ve worked hard for.

My latest hunt took me just outside Spokane, Washington, and it turned into one I’ll never forget. The setup was right, the woods were alive, and when the moment came, I stayed calm. One shot. Two tags filled. Just like that, the hard work paid off. Standing there afterward, I couldn’t stop smiling. Moments like that are why I love turkey hunting so much, the patience, the adrenaline, and the respect for the hunt.

The last piece to complete my Grand Slam is the Osceola, and I already have that hunt on the calendar for 2027. Knowing it’s out there waiting for me keeps me motivated and dreaming about what’s next.

What makes this journey even more special is that my husband has called in every single one of my turkeys. Side by side in the woods, working as a team, sharing the quiet mornings and heart-pounding moments, that’s what really matters to me. It’s not just about filling tags. It’s about the memories we’re building together. Three down. One to go. And I’m loving every step of the journey. – Amy Walsh
