Sunday Waterfowl Hunting Legislation Introduced in Maryland

geese

Recently introduced state legislation would grant the Maryland Department of Natural Resources permission to authorize the hunting of migratory gamebirds, most notably waterfowl, on Sunday’s on private property and designated public hunting areas around the state.

Senate Bill 0243 was introduced by Senator Jack Bailey, an avid waterfowl hunter, and was referred to the Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs committee. SB 0243 is identical to a bill introduced by Senator Bailey last year, but unfortunately that piece of legislation failed to advance out of committee despite strong testimony in support of the bill from a variety of sportsmen’s organizations.

SCI will continue working with partners and legislators in Maryland to advance this bill to the Governor Hogan’s desk for signature and to expand Sunday hunting opportunities throughout the state.
