Social Engineering Or George Orwell’s 1984 Is There A Difference?

In a move reminiscent of Seinfeld’s “No soup for you” Soup Nazi, WeWork Cos. announced this past summer that it would no longer allow the expensing of meals that included meat and that they would not pay for any red meat, poultry or pork at WeWork events.


homer simpsonIn an email to WeWork employees, co-founder Miguel McKelvey said, “New research indicates that avoiding meat is one of the biggest things an individual can do to reduce their personal environmental impact…even more than switching to a hybrid car,” reported Bloomberg.


In a nod to those with medical or religious concerns, the company’s policy team will meet with those individuals to discuss “options.”

In his email, McKelvey advised employees that the meat-free move would affect the company’s travel and expense policy, as well as WeWork’s “Honesty Market,” a self-serve food and drink kiosk system present in some of its 400 co-working buildings.
