Sierra Chapter Hosts Youth Event
The California Sierra Chapter recently hosted a Youth Education Safari (Y.E.S.) event at Success Lake Wildlife Area in Strathmore, Calif.
The educational program is designed to introduce local youth to the outdoors through hands-on experiences in hunting, fishing, conservation and outdoor safety.
The event featured a wide variety of instructional stations, including archery, shotgun safety, Leave No Trace camping principles, situational awareness, fishing basics and the popular “Safari in a Box” wildlife education program.
These stations were led by volunteers who are committed to passing on the values of ethical hunting, proper firearm handling and responsible recreation.
One of the highlights of the day was a bass fishing clinic hosted by The Modern Savage, where youth learned fishing techniques, proper handling and casting along with the importance of boater safety.
Clinics like this help young participants gain skills which they can use for a lifetime while also building an appreciation for wildlife management and habitat protection.
The chapter is especially thankful to our sponsors and volunteer teams, as well as the club’s partners at The Modern Savage, who helped ensure a smooth and successful day. All of the volunteers’ help allowed us to offer quality instruction, and The Modern Savage also provided door prizes to many of the youth, adding an extra level of excitement to the learning experience.
We would also like to recognize the National Rifle Association’s Foundation for its generous contribution to this event. The Foundation was responsible for funding a portion of the archery and shooting sports. Without the support of these groups, volunteers and businesses, we would not be able to host these events.
The California Sierra Chapter of Safari Club International is committed to educating the next generation of outdoorsmen and women. Events like Y.E.S. are a vital part of our mission to promote conservation, protect our hunting heritage and engage our youth in the outdoors.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.
