SCI Urges Swift Senate Approval of Katharine MacGregor

February 11, 2020

The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), today re-approved the nomination of Katharine MacGregor to be Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Interior on a 15-5 vote.  A previous committee nod last November lapsed at the end of the year.

SCI’s Director of Government Affairs, Ben Cassidy, noted the following after the committee’s vote to move the nomination to the full Senate: “Kate MacGregor has proven herself invaluable in delivering real results for the American people.  Sportsmen will benefit from her leadership as Deputy Secretary of the Interior and we urge Senator McConnell to swiftly bring her confirmation up for a floor vote.”

Ms. MacGregor has served in several positions at the Interior Department since joining the Trump Administration in January 2017, including serving as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Land & Minerals Management.  Prior to joining the Department, MacGregor worked on Capitol Hill for 10 years, serving two chairmen of the House Natural Resources Committee.  As someone who has experience working on sportsmen’s priorities with the House Natural Resources Committee and has been at the Department of Interior since day 1 of the Trump administration, there is no one better suited to represent the sportsmen and women of the United States in this position.
