SCI Litigation Update

At the end of last week, the Ninth Circuit shut the door on further review of a decision in favor of SCI’s lawsuit, challenging a California law that prohibited the marketing of firearms in a manner attractive to minors.  SCI and its partners at Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation and Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation had obtained a Ninth Circuit decision that the California law was unconstitutional under the First Amendment because it overly restricted lawful speech.  The State of California asked the court for en banc review.  That means every judge on the court would have considered the case.  The Ninth Circuit denied the state’s motion, affirming the successful decision.  This case represents a big success on behalf of the ability of SCI and its Chapters to promote youth hunting and shooting, and to use firearm raffles and other activities to fundraise for these successful events.
