Raising funds for SCI Foundation education programs is a tough job, and one the Sables take very seriously. It takes dedication, coordination and commitment by many volunteers, supporters and financial contributors to get the job done.
If you attended the Sables 2023 Luncheon at the Convention in Nashville, then you know the result of that hard work was fun, fun and more fun! Taking full advantage of Nashville and its traditions, the Sables Luncheon welcomed attendees with Southern hospitality and Nashville culture made the luncheon feel like an all-new experience! Tickets for the Sables Luncheon sold out weeks before the SCI Convention started, making the 2023 Luncheon the most successful luncheon to date!
In 2024, Sables intends to continue the record-breaking momentum with “Sables Rock the South!” The SCI Convention will be in Nashville for two more years, and Sables has decided to mix it up for 2024.
Still celebrating the South, we are going to highlight our Southern heritage with our own Southern brand of rock (although we have not selected our band yet.) However, if you attended the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert on the final night of the 2023 SCI Convention, then you got a taste of Southern rock in all its glory. What a show and what a way to represent Southern rock!
Southern rock is a subgenre of rock music, born in Macon, Georgia, with Capricorn Records in the mid-1970s, it blossomed in the ’80s. It is a mix of rock and roll, country and blues music.
The roster for Southern rock bands includes The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Grinderswitch, Wet Willie and Elvin Bishop. Also included in the genre are the royalty of Southern rock — ZZ Top, Charlie Daniels, 38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Rock is Southern at heart and for many fans, Southern rock represents the most authentic rock ’n’ roll of all.
Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the founding of Sables. What better way to celebrate than with music from the era of our founding years and the company of fellow Sables to rock ’n’ roll, in the South at the 2024 Sables Luncheon in Nashville, Tennessee?
We hope you are looking forward to the Convention just as much as we are, and we hope your plans include attending the Sables Luncheon. At the 2024 SCI Convention, “Sables Rock the South” and the Sables Luncheon is going to be the place to rock ’n’ roll, on February 2.
