On Thursday, Safari Club International (SCI) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the dedication of its Washington, D.C. office as the new Armand and Mary Brachman Advocacy Center. SCI leadership, senior staff, legislators, dignitaries, and partners were in attendance to commemorate the transformation of SCI’s DC office, only steps from the Capitol, into an official “Hunters’ Embassy.”
As with hunting travel, importing hunting firearms, and other aspects of international hunting, international trophy shipments have become more complicated due to continually evolving regulations and logistical challenges. The range of requirements makes it easy for international hunters to make a simple mistake that can cost them thousands of dollars and ruin a trip.
In safari hunting, last-minute cancellations can and do happen. When they do, outfitters and their agents scramble to fill valuable dates, sometimes leading to significant discounts. However, this can’t be counted on and few among us can drop everything at a moment’s notice, no matter how attractive the opportunity. Most of us need to plan.
Last week, SCI Foundation held the 21st African Wildlife Consultative Forum (AWCF), SCIF’s flagship program that brings together conservation stakeholders in southern Africa annually. Hosted by Namibia, this year’s forum was an unrivaled success with productive dialogue on the sustainable use community’s priorities.
The SCI Europe Committee convened in Oslo, Norway this month to discuss current issues affecting European hunters and how SCI can protect hunting and foster conservation in this part of the world.
