Nebraska Suspends Spring Turkey Hunting Permit Sales

Nebraska Suspends Spring Turkey Hunting Permit Sales

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has suspended the sale of nonresident spring turkey hunting permits, apparently in an effort to discourage nonresident travel to the state. A press release announcing the suspension says the it is a proactive effort to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 in coordination with an executive order issued by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts discouraging unnecessary travel within the state.

A general closure of the spring turkey season has not been implemented, but Game and Parks is contacting nonresidents who had already purchased permits to provide additional information about the hunt and about potential refunds on nonresident licenses. The archery spring turkey season had opened March 25. Shotgun season was to open April 18. All turkey seasons close May 31. All parks offices and commission offices are temporarily closed. Future announcements will be posted to the commission website (http://outdoornebraska.gov/healthinfo/).
