My First Archery Whitetail

I wanted to share pictures of my first archery whitetail with the Women Go Hunting group.

I have been casually shooting a bow for about a year now, and back in July my husband surprised me for my birthday with a serious upgrade compared to what I had before.

As I got better and found more confidence in my shooting, I started to believe that I could actually do it. I kind of had too since the other part to my little “surprise” was a South Texas deer hunt he booked for me in late October. I think he secretly planned it that way.

Then I got an invitation for a ranch weekend and a “girls hunt.” The boys were doing the guiding, the cooking, and all the other stuff. We ladies were there to hunt, and I was super excited.

I have to say, hunting with a rifle is amazing, but nothing prepared me for the feeling I got when this buck stepped out at 30 yards. After the shot, I looked at my husband and told him that my heart was literally beating out of my chest. All he said was, “Congratulations baby. Looks like you’re a bow hunter.” And I think he might be right!

I am super thankful for the time with friends this weekend, and the whole experience. Having this buck at the taxidermist is truly just the icing on the cake.

I can’t wait for our little adventure to South Texas now, where I hope to do it all over again! – Amy Adams
