Militant Animal Rights Activists Chain Selves To Farm Machinery In Protest
Activists from the animal rights group SMASH Speciesism broke into a meat processing plant in Kent (in the UK), demanding that the animals be released to a sanctuary.
The activists, wearing face scarves to hide their identity, took over the Forge Farm Meats factory and chained themselves to the machinery used in the slaughter house. Apparently they did not learn a lesson from a the recent antics of Direct Action Everywhere when activists pulled a similar stunt, only to have the machinery turned on while they were still chained to it.
SMASH Speciesism demanded the animals at the slaughterhouse, including sheep, be given to a sanctuary to live the rest of their lives in peace, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The group of activists raided the processing plant early in the morning, climbing over a fence and setting off pink smoke bombs from the top of the building. They proceeded to hang banners from the buildings reading, “Shut down speciesism.”
Five women were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass at a business. Being arrested was no doubt preferable to having machinery turned on while still attached to it!
