Michael Green Wins SCI/Yamaha Sweepstakes
Michael Green, of Elko, Nevada is the winner of the 2019 Yamaha Wolverine X2 side-by-side given away in the SCI Yamaha Sweepstakes this year. The happy winner explains how it all happened:
“I have hunted and fished since I was a young child, harvesting many of Nevada's big game species (mule deer, rocky Mountain elk, pronghorn antelope, desert bighorn sheep and California bighorn sheep), and many species of upland game birds. I was fortunate to go on an African safari to South Africa in 2005 with some good friends where I harvested five plains game species. That was a hunt of a lifetime for me.
“I'm retired now, but I worked close to 34 years as a fisheries biologist for the Nevada Fish and Game (Nevada Dept. of Wildlife), so the outdoors has always been an important part of my life. I have two wonderful children, son and daughter, and wife who partake in many of my outdoor activities. My wife Karen and daughter Melissa are not hunters but love to fish and enjoy all of the wild game I bring home to the dinner table. My son Jason is an avid hunter and fisherman, and he is one of the most ethical hunters I have ever known, and I have known many through my career. Both Jason and I are avid about protecting public lands for use for all.
“I have and do support SCI because of their devotion to protecting hunting rights and wildlife and habitat conservation worldwide. I appreciate that SCI has a history of supporting legislation that will continue sport hunting for years to come for me, my son and for all ethical hunters.
“I attended SCI's 47th Annual Hunters’ Convention in Reno, Nevada this winter as I enjoy all the exhibits and talking with many of the outfitters. As I entered the Convention, I purchased my entry fee and renewed my membership, then handed the ticket for the door prize which I didn't think twice about, because I never win.
“Well, on May 11 I got an email from Jason St. Michael (SCI Canada Operations Manager) that my name was drawn and I was the winner of the 2019 Yamaha Wolverine X2 side by side and could I send him my contact information. Was I excited? Well, I mistyped my phone number that I sent him twice before I got it right. I couldn't believe for a long time that it was true, that I had won such an outstanding prize. I told several family members and friends, but still wasn't sure it was true. I feel lucky and I want to thank SCI for this opportunity to win such a prize, and also Jason St. Michael for all of his work to finalize the deal.
“My luck wasn't over, though. After the 2019 Nevada big game tag draw, I found out I was awarded a rifle antelope tag and a coveted desert bighorn rifle tag (my second). I feel I am a very fortunate individual and am very thankful.”
SCI has launched another sweepstakes in which the winner will have the opportunity to join Sporting Classics TV host Chris Dorsey on a spectacular goose hunt at the North Platte Outpost – a High Adventure Company – from Dec. 15-18. The hunt will be aired during the 2020 season of Sporting Classics TV.
Anyone who joins or renews their SCI membership between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2019 will be entered into the sweepstakes.
