Louisiana Proposed Black Bear Season

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Commission adopted a Notice of Intent (NOI) for a proposed black bear season in December of 2024 at their November Commission meeting.  The proposed season is a thoughtful and conservative approach to a great conservation species recovery story.  SCI Board member and Acadiana Chapter President Richard Kennedy, SCI Regional Rep. Steve Caldwell, and SCI/F Large Carnivore Program Manager Maria Davidson provided oral comments in support of the NOI at the Commission meeting.  Public comment on the NOI will be accepted through Feb. 5, 2024, at 4 p.m. and can be submitted to LDWF Large Carnivore Program Manager John Hanks at [email protected] or 318-343-8325.  To see the complete NOI, go to https://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/assets/Resources/Publications/Commission_Action_Items/Bear-Hunting-Areas-Seasons-Rules-Bag-Limits-NOI–Amended.pdf
