King’s Speech Silent on Trophy Imports

On November 7, King Charles delivered the “King’s Speech,” which sets out the government’s priorities for the new Parliamentary session.  Unlike the Queen’s Speech in 2021, which announced an intent to adopt a broad ban on the import of hunting trophies, King Charles notably did not mention any new effort to ban the import of sport-hunted trophies into the United Kingdom.  Although this does not preclude Members of Parliament from bringing another import ban bill for consideration in Parliament, it is a good signal that the current government will not focus on trophy imports as an issue that warrants considerable time or effort.
