Canada bans more guns

Canadian Liberal Government is attacking RCMP vetted and Licensed Firearm Owning Canadians

The Canadian Liberal Government is at it again, attacking RCMP vetted and licensed firearm owning Canadians instead of focusing their attention and energies on criminals.

As SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin said in 2020 when the May 1stOIC was brought forward, “SCI is unapologetic in our defense of hunting and unapologetic in defense of the traditional means of hunting – including firearms. Restricting the rights of sportsmen to safely own and use firearms will not prevent crime but it will further erode our hunting heritage.  Regardless of any good intentions, this is simply another restriction that will fail to achieve its intended goal of controlling violent behavior.”

Efforts to ban modern sporting rifles are consistently focused on emotion, cosmetics, and appearances with no regard for the operation and performance characteristics of these firearms. The original decision came on the heels of the worst mass shooting in Canadian history, however that ban would not have stopped the shooter from obtaining his firearms: he did not have a license to possess or purchase firearms, and police have said the guns were obtained illegally. No aspect of the ban brought forward in 2020 addressed the criminal disregard for the law held by the shooter. The Liberals are once again using tragedy to push their hidden agenda to ban all firearms, by announcing more bans on the eve of the anniversary of the 1989 Polytechnic Massacre.

As seen in 2020, the government is attempting to impose this gun ban via an Order in Council with no opposition. By doing another ban by OIC, they are circumventing the ability for legislators to discuss and bring forward the concerns of their constituents, as well as preventing testimony from organizations at committee to discuss the impacts of these bans on Canadians.

SCI will always stand with the licensed and vetted hunters and sport shooters across Canada. We call on the government to immediately rescind this OIC, refocus their energy and attention on real criminals, and stop attacking hunters and sport shooters.
