Grunting at the Moon!

A group of us hunted wild boar in the middle of the night under a full moon! The boars in Georgia are very destructive and are tearing up farmer’s peanut fields. So, we were on a mission to harvest as many of them as we could. We hunted all night until 4 am, listening to all the night sounds as we watched the animals through the thermal scopes. By the end of the hunt, we had harvested more than 10 boars and had lots of meat, some of which we donated locally.

Our friends bought this hunt at the National Capital Chapter auction. Two couples went, and we had so much fun! This trip also allowed us to finally visit Kevin’s Sporting Goods flagship store in Thomasville, where we met Kevin and his wife and got a tour of the famous gun room! – By Beth Robinson

Editor’s Note: Georgia classifies feral boar as a non-game, invasive species, which allows for a lot of flexibility in controlling their population. They have become so destructive to farming areas that the state allows unlimited hunting for them on private land. Hunting them at night with artificial lights, night-vision or thermal optics is very popular, and there are no bag limits or seasons. You must have landowner permission and a hunting license. Public land has some different regulations. Get all the rules and regs from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
