Great Moments in Nashville

By Brook Minx, SCI Foundation President

As I write this, we just finished SCI’s 51st Annual Hunters’ Convention; our first time in Nashville, Tennessee. Put aside record-breaking numbers. From a human standpoint, I was blown away by the excitement and positivity. We at SCI Foundation felt the buzz all week! Amazing!

The most important event for us each year is the SCI Foundation Beretta Conservation Leadership Award Gala, which saw record-breaking attendance as we raised well into the 7-figures for our mission.

Thank you to all who attended and participated in our signature fundraising event. Thank you to Beretta for their continued and unwavering support! Thank you to all donors: a week-long rustic log cabin vacation (Buck and Ann Woodruff), artwork (Ross Parker’s Call of Africa), jewelry, guns, etc. We could not do it without you!

The crowning moment at The Beretta Gala was when emcee J. Alain Smith announced this year’s winner, Mary Cabela. The award was well deserved for Mary’s financial contributions to conservation, education, humanitarian service and hunting achievements. Congrats Mary!

The Annual Krieghoff & SCIF Sporting Clays Shoot, one of the most enjoyable events of the week, took place at the Nashville Gun Club. Krieghoff’s Alex Diehl and Pro Staff set up a 12-station course and helped shooters with their full line of Krieghoff shotguns. We thank Krieghoff’s continued sponsorship, Federal for supplying ammunition, and a huge thank you to Patron Sponsor, She Hunts Skills Camp, and Hunter Proud Foundation for being a station sponsor. While “Team Minx” had the high score and took first place in Class 1, teammates Mike Crawford, Lew Webb, Jordan Hasler and Terry Hetrick carried the day to get the W! Ms. Kaari Wicklund was best individual shooter overall and scored 43/50. Congrats Kaari!

SCI Foundation Sables kept true to their brand with a wild and fun Sables Luncheon. The luncheon provided entertainment, food, table settings, swag, auction items and more. Plan to attend next year. Book early, the luncheon will sell out again.

Our Veterans Breakfast was a real treat, with the color guard provided by Tennessee Wildlife Resources. Thank you again to Frank Sullivan, our honored combat veteran. Sullivan will hunt axis deer at the Lazy CK Ranch, thanks to the Veterans breakfast and Lazy CK Ranch.

SCI Foundation Monthly Giving saw a great spike from Nashville, with nearly 550 active Monthly Givers. This program is affordable: give at whatever level works for you. We hope everyone can give $25 per month or more. Please join me. I donate $100/month.

When you donate to monthly giving, your name is placed in the Sweepstakes drawings. This year’s Grand Prize winner was Matthew Baker from Missouri. We thank him, and all of you, for supporting SCIF with your Monthly Gift. Click here to sign-up now, and you can see all that you might win.

Nashville was a tremendous success, and we’ll be back in 2024. Please attend, find me when you’re there and say hello! I’m here to help!
