If you are a seasoned convention-goer like me, you know the importance of strategizing a plan to see everything at SCI’s Annual Hunters’ Convention. There is always so much to see and do. So, to assist in managing your time, here is a summary of what’s happening with Sables this year, so you can be sure to plan accordingly.
Sables General Membership Meeting
The Sables General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at 3 p.m. in Music Row 5. This is your opportunity as a Sables member to participate in a Sables Meeting, as well as meet the Sables Governing Board Officers and Directors. We hope to see all you Sables members there.
Happenings in the Sables Booth
There will be lots of excitement buzzing around the Sables Booth this year. New to the Sables Booth, there will be cornhole tournaments or “cornaments”! For a fee of $5, that, of course, goes to Sables Education programs, you can enter into a cornament and perhaps become the first reigning champion! Bragging rights are at stake! While at the Sables Booth, be sure to purchase your Sables Benefit Award Tickets, $25 for 1 ticket or $100 for five tickets.
Your ticket purchase is exclusively earmarked for Sables Education programs, and you can grab one of these really nice items if you win:
• Bronze sculpture titled “Rice Lake Pintails,” donated by Bud Burger Bronze Sculpture, valued at $7,500.
• 18K white and yellow Gold Leopard Square Pendent, donated by Appleby’s Animals, valued at $12,950.
• Big Five Knife, valued at $1,650.
While you are at the booth, please consider volunteering to become the next generation of Sables leadership. We will have election forms there for you to pick up, and Convention is a great time to ask us about running for a Sables officer or director position.
Sables Luncheon
Join us this year as the Sables celebrate 40 years of luncheons. This year the Sables luncheon is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24, in the Broadway Ballroom A-F at the Omni Nashville Hotel.
As you enter the ballroom, you will be greeted by long-time Sable supporters, good ol’ Southern hospitality and a smile. Complimentary drinks start promptly at 10:15 a.m. when the doors open, allowing time for you to visit with friends while viewing unique silent auction items, enjoying the “Women Go Hunt” fashion show and listening to pre-entertainment from singer Tanya Davis.
A delicious lunch will be served followed by live entertainment from the band Sweet Tea Trio and line dancing, the live auction, and a delicious dessert. Buy online at showsci.org to assure you get your ticket or table. They are selling faster than a monkey on moonshine!
Volunteer for Sables at Convention
Sables volunteers are needed during the SCI 2023 Convention at both the Sables booth and Luncheon. Becoming a Sables volunteer is a great way to meet like-minded people who are dedicated to preserving our hunting heritage through conservation education.
