Denver Humanitarian Projects & AWLS Chapter Leadership Training

denver-sci-pheasant-hunt1The Denver Chapter of SCI hosted several Humanitarian Services Projects in 2014. Partnering with local hospitals, guides and other organizations, the people of the Denver Chapter embarked on several different outings that gave back to the people of their community.

In October, the chapter hosted a pheasant hunt at the Valhalla Hunt Club for patients with spinal cord injuries and their families. The event started with some trap shooting instruction and practice. Humanitarian Service Chair, Bob Adwar, described the afternoon. “At 1:00pm we loaded up the dogs and took the patients up to the denver-sci-flyfishing-1fields. We took two patients at a time in the side by side UTV’s. The dogs went on point, the pheasants fly, some escaped and some became dinner. Everyone at least got a chance to shoot. It was a great day!”

In addition to pheasant hunts, the chapter has hosted fly fishing trips and other outings designed to provide patients, wounded veterans and their families memorable experiences in the outdoors.

Chapter Leadership Training at AWLS

Chapter-Training-2015-Group-PhotoEarlier this month, SCIF staff hosted a chapter leadership training session at the renowned AWLS facility outside Jackson, Wyoming.  Participants enjoyed the full AWLS experience and snuck in a little education on chapter leadership, compliance and putting on a successful fundraiser from the Membership and Chapter Services team.  Space for this training fills up fast, so chapter leaders interested in the 2016 event should start planning now.
