Celebrate the Hunting Sisterhood with Próis and WGH
When Kirstie Pike drew an archery elk tag for her first hunt in Colorado, she went straight to Denver’s biggest sporting goods store to get geared up. The only camo clothing she found were capri pants and baby doll t-shirts. That was 2008 and the year she created Próis Hunting, a line of women’s hunting apparel and gear designed to fit the full range of women’s body types and to meet their special needs in the field.
Pike, who was a registered nurse when she founded Próis, is the first to say her path to creating a successful line of women’s clothing is littered with the failures of missteps and shots in the dark, from sourcing fabrics and finding the right pattern maker to getting her products in front of the women she knew needed them.
“It was a backwards way to start,” she laughs. But she understood that shrinking men’s clothes and making them pink was not what the growing market of women who hunted needed when going to the woods. She stuck to her vision of offering a comprehensive line of high-quality performance apparel, and today Próis can outfit women no matter what they are hunting and for almost any conditions.
While vision and tenacity kept her going, Pike credits her success to what she describes as an amazing sisterhood of women associated with the brand. “I’ve seen a lot of companies in this space come and go,” she says. “What makes Próis stand out from the rest is the amazing sisterhood of women associated with the brand.”
Called the Próis Posse, the sisterhood includes employees, hunt staff, and customers that Pike says are the drivers of what makes Próis unique – a community of likeminded women who are wives, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, and the girl next door.
That is what she says led her to support SCI’s Women Go Hunting program by sponsoring the WGH Hunting Awards Challenge, now in its third year. “SCI has elevated this to more than just a simple contest or click bait gimmick,” she said. “WGH really helps women connect and get the support they need in an uplifting environment. I encourage all women to jump in and connect with other women. Participate in the Challenge and come to the annual WGH Mix & Mingle event at the SCI Convention.”
Pike has provided 10 $100 Próis Hunting gift cards as prizes for winners of the WGH Challenge. The contest encourages women to document their hunting journeys by submitting photos of their accomplishments. All participants are recognized on WGH platforms. The Challenge runs now through the end of 2025. Entries may include any species recognized by the SCI Record Book, with categories for hunts in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, South Pacific, and for Turkeys of the World, Birds of the World, First Time Entrants, and Girls Under 15.
