Beware of Entry Restrictions and Quarantines Affecting Hunting Travel Due to COVID-19

The US Department of State has issued a Global Health Advisory asking US citizens to reconsider travel abroad as COVID-19 continues to spread across the globe. Many countries are restricting entry or requiring quarantines of all foreign nationals. Also, international flights in and out of some destinations are being cancelled.

In Argentina this weekend, 27 US hunters were being kept in quarantine and all airline flights into and out of that country were cancelled until April 10, 2020. The US Embassy was working to have those US citizens released and returned to the United States on the last flights allowed out of the country today. In South Africa, where numerous COVID-19 cases have been traced to international travelers, President Cyril Ramaphosa has cancelled visas for US nationals as well as those from other countries affected by COVID-19. He has also closed 55 land entry points and two seaports of entry. Similar restrictions and closures are taking place across the globe. SCI members still planning to travel abroad should check the US State Department travel website for any entry restrictions or quarantine requirements in their intended destination before boarding a plane. Also be sure to review and follow updates on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website.
