Around the States: Kansas, Maine, Minnesota

Kansas:  SCI State and Local Liaison Chris Tymeson attended the annual meeting of the Kansas State Rifle Association in Lenexa, Kansas this past weekend, engaging with legislators and statewide elected officials on topics of importance to SCI, its members and chapters.  Pictured (L-R):  Representative Doug Blex, Kansas House District 12 (R) and Chris Tymeson, SCI State and Local Liaison.  Rep. Blex is a tireless advocate for hunters, having retired from a career in conservation with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, before returning to the Capitol in his current capacity.

Maine: Legislation to ban “fenced” hunting preserves, which is vaguely defined in the bill and would have had far reaching implications for hunting within any type of “artificial enclosure” including bird hunting operations and other types of hunting, has failed. Earlier this month, SCI New England Chapter President testified in opposition to the bill.

Minnesota: SCI joined 10 other organizations in a letter to the Minnesota Senate in opposition to any amendments to the Omnibus Environment and Climate Bill that would prohibit a future wolf season in Minnesota.
