Around the States: California, Pennsylvania, Texas

California: Last week, California Advocates sent hundreds of letters to the legislature opposing an extreme excise tax on firearms. Updates to come.

Pennsylvania: SCI was well represented at the annual Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Cigar Reception in Harrisburg on June 13. The event, well attended by state legislators, legislative staff, and Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) staff, provided a venue for SCI members and other partner organizations to interact with decision makers on important sportsmen’s issues. Specifically, SCI was supporting legislation to further expand Sunday Hunting (Senate Bill 67) in the Keystone state which is currently limited to only three Sundays a year. Texas: SCI Western State and Local Liaison Chris Tymeson and Texas Trophy Hunters Association CEO Christina Pittman traveled to Austin, Texas to meet with leadership within the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).  SCI/F Large Carnivore Program Manager Maria Davidson also attended virtually due to travel delay issues.  The TPWD has a relatively new Executive Director, David Yoskowitz, and the purpose of the successful meeting was to forge new partnership opportunities and re-kindle existing relationships with SCI, SCI/F, TTHA and the TPWD.  Pictured left to right, Clayton Wolf, TPWD Chief Operating Officer, Christina Pittman, CEO TTHA, David Yoskowitz, TPWD Executive Director, Chris Tymeson, SCI Western State and Local Liaison, and John Silovsky, TPWD Wildlife Division Director (below).
