Around the States: Boone and Crockett, California, Oregon, South Carolina, Wyoming

Boone and Crockett: Safari Club International Western State and Local Liaison Chris Tymeson attended the 136thAnnual Meeting of the Boone and Crockett Club held during the week of November 29th in Louisville, Kentucky.  Tymeson, a Professional Member of the Club, attended the Club’s various committee meetings and engaged with Regular Members and other Professional Members on topics of conservation interest to SCI and its members and chapters.

California:  Anti-gun advocates have filed a ballot measure for the November 2024 election.  The measure, dubbed the “Gun Safety Accountability Act 2024″, (Initiative 23-0033), would require 8 hours of annual gun safety training and in-person testing for firearms owners as well as create a gun ownership taxing scheme to pay for previously failed policies, among other egregious items contained in the measure.  SCI will continue to monitor and engage where necessary to protect the rights of members.

Oregon:  A state court judge ruled recently that Measure 114 was unconstitutional.  Measure 114, which SCI opposed, narrowly passed in 2022 and required among other things, a permit to purchase scheme and a ban on magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.  SCI will continue to update on the litigation as it progresses through the court system.

South Carolina: SCI submitted comments in support of the proposed changes to the Wildlife Management Area regulations for South Carolina. Read the letter here.

Wyoming: SCI submitted comments in support of proposed changes to Wyoming’s bear hunting season regulation. Read the letter.
