A Ladies’ Arctic Adventure for Muskox

Greenland was an experience I’ll never forget. I spent three days hunting muskox with Inuit Outfitters alongside family and friends. Temperatures dropped to around -24 degrees, and each day we traveled by four-wheeler across frozen lakes and through some incredible country looking for muskox. After spending the day out in that kind of cold, coming back to our heated cabin each night was definitely appreciated!

Over the course of the hunt, we made several stalks that didn’t work out. Between the conditions, the terrain, and the muskox moving before we could get into the right position, we had to back out and start over more than once. It made it that much more rewarding when everything finally came together on the second day.

We found another group of muskox and were able to work our way in close. I ended up taking my bull at just 45 yards. What made the experience even more memorable was that my friend was hunting right there with me. After I took my bull, she was able to take hers from the same group. Our two muskoxen ended up only about 400 yards apart, so we got to experience that success together.

The hunt was only three days, but it packed a lot into a short amount of time. From unsuccessful stalks and -24 degree temperatures to riding four-wheelers across frozen lakes and finally getting within 45 yards of a muskox, it was an adventure from beginning to end.

More than anything, getting to experience Greenland and share the hunt with family and friends is what made the trip so special. I came home with an incredible muskox, but the memories and people I shared it with are what I’ll remember most.
