It’s Not About Just The Hunt or The Harvest

I’ll never forget that brisk Tuesday morning in Sonora, Mexico. The desert was so quiet it felt like it was holding its breath. The sky was just starting to turn pink over the mountains, and everything—cactus, rocks, mesquite—glowed in that soft desert morning light.

We were rolling down a hillside when I caught movement. At first it was just ears… then antlers. A beautiful Sonoran mule deer stepped out, tall and heavy, moving slow and cautious like he knew this land belonged to him.

My heart started pounding, but everything else got really calm. I took my time, settled in, and waited for the right moment. When I finally squeezed the trigger, it felt clean and right—just one of those moments where everything lines up the way it’s supposed to.

Afterward, walking up to him, I felt nothing but respect. That deer had lived a wild, tough life out there in that harsh desert, and I was grateful for the experience, not just the harvest.

It wasn’t just a hunt — it was about being part of something ancient, quiet, and real. And standing there in the Sonoran desert, I knew it was a moment I’d carry with me forever. – Emily Jones
