SCI Chapters Give Money, Sweat To Help Flood Victims
The Texas and Louisiana Chapters of SCI joined forces with TTHA and other local organizations to help those affected by the July flooding. Below is just a short list of their efforts since this horrific event occurred.
The San Angelo Texas, Texas Hill Country Chapter and Louisiana Acadiana Chapters each pledged $8,100, while the Brazos Valley Chapter pledged $2,000, from the recent Texas and Louisiana SCI Chapter’s Keith Warren/Conroe Taxidermy event.
The San Angelo Chapter also gave a $50,000 grant to San Angelo Area Foundation for people in need in that area.
The Fort Worth Chapter donated $5,000 in funds plus any profit from one item from their August live auction.
The Texas Brush County Chapter donated $3,300 and the Alaska Chapter provided $10,000. This money was directed to Big Country Equipment for their heavy machinery use in the recovery efforts.
The Alamo City Chapter purchased supplies and has continued to raise funds and provide manpower.
Collectively, the chapters have raised funds, brought in businesses, coordinated efforts and helped deliver needed funds, supplies and donated their time to help those in need.
Partnerships were formed to expand our ability to help those in need.
Casey Way from the West Texas Chapter and Ferguson Custom Meat in San Angelo donated meat to help feed the volunteers. Way also cooked and fed volunteers daily for over one week, slept in his truck so he could be on-scene to help day after day.
Verfurth Electric Co donated $2,000 that was used to provide basic necessities such as bathroom products and bug repellent. Pallets of sanitation wipes and PPE supplies were provided by Atomic Properties and Klein Tools, Midland.
The Brazos Valley chapter additionally partnered with Majewski Transportation- Houston, TX and brought a 18-wheeler full of essentials to the Kerrville area.
They also partnered with individuals like Jessica Zuntych, Funds for Kerr County Relief. They provided totes full of donations from locals and SCI members. These were stuffed with essentials such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, chainsaws, fuel, oil, drinks, snacks, bedding, towels and pet supplies.
Individual donations are countless but include those from Jeff Kennedy, Marty Gilhchrist, Kent Robinson, Bo Adams and his wife, Amy.
Big Country Equipment/Kothman Family donated their time and heavy equipment to aid in rescue and recovery efforts. Chapter leaders like Vanessa Carpenter, Texas Hill Country; Brandon Bredemeyer, West Texas Chapter; Lloyd Cage, Brush Country Chapter; all pitched in to help.
Texas Trophy Hunters has also greatly supported and contributed to helping those in need by collecting funds, supplies, and donating time.
A big thank you goes to Erica Verfurth from San Angelo for helping coordinate communications among the chapters, working with partners, and doing all she can to help those in need.
