SCI Awards Rep. Bobby Cox Legislator of the Year

Safari Club International (SCI) is proud to announce State Representative Bobby J. Cox of South Carolina as the 2022 SCI State Legislator of the Year.

First elected in 2018 to represent the 21st district in the Greenville area, Representative Cox is a champion for hunting access and the Second Amendment in the South Carolina Legislature. He previously served as the Chairman for the House Freshman Caucus and currently serves as the Co-Chair for the South Carolina Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus.

As a State Representative, Cox works tirelessly to advocate for issues of importance to sportsmen and women. He previously led efforts to remove hunting apprentice license limits to expand apprentice hunting and grant newfound access and opportunities for new hunters. He is also currently the sponsor of legislation to legalize Sunday hunting  in South Carolina, where current law  singles out Sunday as the one day where the outdoor sporting community is barred from accessing and hunting on 1 million acres of public land.

Representative Cox is also a distinguished Army Ranger and served four combat tours in Iraq. For his service in the Army, Bobby was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (to name a few). Cox continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel.

“Lt. Col. Bobby Cox is a true public servant, a great American, and a strong advocate for hunters. As a legislative champion, Representative Cox continues to protect the freedom to hunt and promote increased access across the Palmetto State,” said Ben Cassidy, SCI Executive Vice President of International Government and Public Affairs. “SCI remains First for Hunters, and we are proud to recognize the tremendous work of Representative Cox on behalf of hunting and hunters in South Carolina.”

Representative Cox serves as SIG SAUER’s Director of Government Strategy where he oversees business development programs for the Pentagon and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies. He currently resides in Greer, South Carolina with his wife Joscelyn and his two children, Reagan and Seth.
