2020 California Legislative Summary

The California legislature adjourned on August 31, 2020, the last day of the 2019-2020 Legislative Session. During a legislative session defined and shaped by COVID-19, Safari Club International and its members in California were able to track 127 bills that would impact sportsmen and women and officially took positions on 43 bills.

While we fought hard until the stroke of midnight on August 31st to stop the biggest priority for our members in California and worldwide– Senate Bill 1175 – there were several bills that didn’t get the spotlight they deserved at the time and are important to understand going forward for future sessions.

Congratulations to sportsmen and sportswomen in California for the hard work and a successful year in very difficult conditions created by the political climate and COVID-19 restrictions. Safari Club International will continue to work hard on behalf of hunters and promote conservation in California and worldwide.

Stay tuned as the year unfolds for further updates on the conclusion of the 2019-20 legislative session and the start of the new session on December 7th.
