A crowd of 150 gathered Saturday, February 27 at the striking Vineyards Country Club in Naples, Florida, enjoying a great evening of camaraderie for hunters from southwest and central Florida.
Led for the last several years by Chapter President Jay Cross, Sr., the Naples – Ft. Myers Chapter is playing a significant role in educating young hunters in the state. Showcased during the evening was the Chapter’s latest contribution and commitment to young people with the unveiling of the Youth Hunter Safety Course trailer dedicated to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Liesa Priddy, Vice Chairman of the Wildlife Commission was on hand to accept the grant. President Cross remarked the trailer was donated to support kids and hunter education throughout the immediate five county areas of southwest Florida.
The Chapter and the Conservation Commission also work closely together in getting youth out afield through the Chapter’s successful and popular Collier County Youth Hunt held every season for 15 or more lucky youngsters who harvest wild hogs from the area. Chapter sponsor Razor Ranch is also a valued partner in the program designed to give young people outdoor skills necessary to enjoy hunting and the wilderness.
At SCI’s American Wilderness Leadership School near Jackson, Wyoming two teachers from the Collier County area of Florida are sponsored every year by the Naples – Ft. Meyers Chapter whose members believe strongly in providing wildlife conservation education in Florida classrooms.
